Effective date

On your device

Your progress (topics, exercises, readings, saved words, reviews, XP, levels, streaks and achievements) is stored with SwiftData on your iPhone or iPad, and your settings (daily goal, text size, pronunciation, reminder time) in the app’s own storage. None of it is sent to me or to anyone else. It is part of your device’s backups, and deleting the app deletes it.

Purchases

Ostraka Pro is bought through Apple; your payment details never reach me. To know whether Pro is active and to let you restore it, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), which receives:

  • an anonymous app user ID, created on your device and not linked to your name, email or Apple Account;
  • your purchase history for Ostraka, as reported by Apple;
  • the technical details every internet request carries, such as the app and iOS version and your IP address.

RevenueCat also shows me aggregate figures about purchases, such as how many people subscribe, which is the only measurement of any kind. In the App Store’s privacy label this is Purchases → Purchase History, used for app functionality and analytics, not linked to your identity and not used for tracking. RevenueCat’s policy: www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

Reminders

The daily reminder is off until you switch it on, and only then does Ostraka ask for permission to send notifications. The reminder is scheduled on your device; no server is involved. Switching it off removes it.

Links to other sites

A word card can open the word in Logeion, Wiktionary or Perseus. These open in your browser, and those sites’ own policies apply. Ostraka sends them nothing beyond the word in the address.

What Ostraka never does

No account or sign-in. No analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools. No advertising identifier. No tracking across apps or websites. No selling or sharing of data.

This website

ostraka.pages.dev is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse. The site sets no cookies and has no analytics. Its animation library is loaded from cdnjs, Cloudflare’s public library service.

Children

Ostraka is for learners of any age. It collects no personal information and shows no ads; the only data that leaves the device is the anonymous purchase record above, if a purchase is made.

Your choices

Delete the app to delete everything on your device. To ask about, or to delete, the anonymous purchase record, write to me with the date of the purchase so it can be found. Depending on where you live, you may also complain to your data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
